artnet Auctions is pleased to present Henri Cartier-Bresson: Iconic Images from the Master of the Decisive Moment, which features a selection of 35 works by the legendary photographer, with estimates ranging from US$4,000 to 25,000.

This sale illustrates the breadth of Cartier-Bresson’s career. As seen in masterpieces such as Behind the Gare Saint-Lazare (1932) and Hyères, France (1932), Cartier-Bresson captured what he referred to as the "decisive moment," or the split second when the events in the picture create a perfect composition. As he famously said: "The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever." Images such as Leonore Fini, Italy (1933) and Roman Amphitheater, Valencia, Spain (1933) demonstrate the strong influence of Surrealism on his work. While most of his works are figurative, the sale also includes serene, undisturbed landscapes such as Brie, France (1968) and Île de la Cité, Paris (1952). Still other works reveal the photographer’s comic sensibility, from the overtly humorous Rue Mouffetard (1954) to the subtly humorous Athens, Greece (1953).
