In Prague every April is dedicated to photography, celebrated by the PRAGUE PHOTO FESTIVAL. The fourth annual festival will take place this year at a number of venues, including Manes exhibition hall (from the 5th to the 10th of April, 2011) where over thirty vendors will display photographs as well as exhibitions in fifteen other galleries, museums and institutions throughout the city.

The opening event will take place at Manes exhibition hall, where a wide variety of photographers, galleries, and institutions that are engaged in photography will display the work of over 230 artists. This will include the Czech Center of Photography, Professional Photographers Association of CZ, PHP – Photo Forum, Leica Gallery Prague, PPF Art, Gallery Montanelli, Gambit Photo, The Chemistry Gallery, Millennium Gallery, Archive V. Chochola, Torst Publishing, Kant Publishing, and more.

A large part of the show will be devoted to a comprehensive overview of academic and vocational schools in the Czech Republic, that are educating a new generation of photographers, including: FAMU, The Institute of Creative Photography, Silesian University in Opava, University of West Bohemia in Plzen, and J. E. Purkyně University in Usti nad Labem, as well as students from Bratislava – Academy of Fine Arts and Design.

The show will also be accompanied by a number of other programs such as meetings with the artists, round table discussions, and book signings.

The PRAGUE PHOTO FESTIVAL will continue throughout April and until the 5th of May, 2011 at fifteen other galleries, museums, and institutions in Prague. Exhibitions curated in conjunction with the festival will be presented at the Museum of Applied Arts, Galerie Rudolfinum, DOX - Centre for Contemporary Art, Gallery Artinbox, the Gallery of Josef Sudek, Langhans Gallery, the Leica Gallery Prague, the Gallery of Vaclav Spala, New Town Hall and elsewhere

Every year the winner of the UniCredit Bank Young Prague Photo Award is announced by a selection committee during the festival, honoring a young photographer under the age of 35. The previous winners of this award have received acclaim from photography professionals and enthusiasts in the Czech Republic and have had substantial attention from abroad as well.

Prague is one of a number of European capitals where 'Month of Photography' festivals are held in different seasons throughout the year. We hope that this large-scale project will promote a broader and deeper understanding of this media, and encourage public interest in photography.
