›Shifting Ground‹
In 1997 Dean Chapman began documenting change in the former mining communities between Durham, Sedgefield and the Gaunless and Wear valleys. The earliest image in the exhibition captures Tony Blair in his Sedgefield constituency on the day of his 1997 victory.

›Coalfield Stories‹
Premiered in Durham in the Summer, this exhibition looks at the gallery's Current Photography Project: Coalfield Stories. In an ambitious commitment to new documentary photography, Side launched The Durham Coalfield Project in 2000, setting away a number of individual investigations as part of broad look at contemporary experience in ex-colliery communities.
